Brutus & Rukus

The Boars: Brutus & Rukus

Brutus & Rukus are Beast-type boars, and boy they sure are pigs. These guys will eat anything, including your pets.

Brutus

Type: Beast (takes extra damage from Mechanical-type attacks)

HP: 2,444

Power: 422

Speed: 300

Bonus Abilities:

Hearty Meal (restores 66 HP per round)

Attacks:

Horn Gore (100% hit chance, 371-556 damage; strong vs. critter, weak vs. flying)

Winter Spirit (100% hit chance, 442 damage; strong vs. mechanical, weak vs. critter)

Pig Out (100% hit chance, 1-round CD, 309 damage, user is healed for 100% of damage done; strong vs. critter, weak vs. flying)

Rukus

Type: Beast (takes extra damage from Mechanical-type attacks)

HP: 2,444

Power: 422

Speed: 263

Bonus Abilities:

Hearty Meal (restores 66 HP per round)

Attacks:

Bite (100% hit chance, 442 damage; strong vs. critter, weak vs. flying)

Hunting Party (100% hit chance, 2-round ability, 4-round CD, 265 damage split into 3 attacks, applies debuff that double’s damage taken by the target, attack repeats through a second round; strong vs. mechanical, weak vs. critter)

Bloodfang (100% hit chance, 3-round CD, 552 damage, if the target dies the user is healed for 552 HP; strong vs. critter, weak vs. flying)

Basic Tips:

  • Watch out for Rukus’ Bloodfang. It will usually come after the Shattered Defenses debuff from Hunting Party, meaning it usually hits closer to 1,100 damage than 550, and if it kills your pet, it heals Rukus.
  • The boars have pretty decent self-healing. While the 66 HP from Hearty Meal may not seem like much, keep in mind that this heals both boars every round, and is not contingent on attacks or being the active pet. Both boars also have a larger attack-based heal on a fairly short CD.
  • Brutus is pretty fast with 300 speed, but there are plenty of pets that can top it. As usual, going first is a major advantage.
  • Since both boars’ healing is mostly reliant on attacks, defensive CDs (both damage reduction and avoidance) are very handy.
  • Although Brutus has an anti-mechanical attack, the 3-on-2 format means you can usually just stick with mechanical pets, especially if you are faster than Brutus.
