I picked up this trinket – http://www.wowhead.com/item=86585 and my first thought was that it is an interesting effect, but nowhere near worth the trinket slot. So my sister and I were talking about it and we bounced some ideas off of each other and that got us thinking, what if we had a new “equipment” slot to house an item like this? These items could do something that is interesting or nice, in a fun/flavor sort of way, but isn’t really designed to add to character power. That is to say, I’m aiming for something along the lines of minor glyphs, but more universal than class-specific glyphs are. Nothing that’s going to really change your playstyle, but something cool enough that you’d be willing to work for it (at least to some extent). I’m a huge fan of the grummles, so their Luckydo knickknacks sprung to mind. So why not have a Luckydo slot?
Other fun/interesting effects that would be worth making into a Luckydo:
Transformation On-Use Effects: http://www.wowhead.com/item=72898
This gives you a demonic “shadow form” type of look, but it brings up ideas for many types of “transformation” Luckydos. Aside from demons, you could also have ones that make you look like: a vrykul, a valkyr, a wisp, a ninja, a bat, a ghost, a monkey, a skeleton, a bunny, a naga, etc.
Cosmetic Weapon/Character Effects: http://www.wowhead.com/item=72899
Remove the damage component (it was negligible anyway) and an item like this could give your weapon a temporary elemental glow (fiery, icy, etc.). It could either be a short on-use effect or a fun proc (like say for critical strikes). Another usage would be that a character could pick up the sparkle effect from the http://www.wowhead.com/item=86585 or a similar cosmetic effect.
RP Action Effects: http://www.wowhead.com/item=72901
A fun on-use emote effect could also make a fine Luckydo. I’m thinking something along the lines of the paladin prayer glyph – something that isn’t in the usual slash command toolbox. Another use that springs to mind is to make the character perform a small emote when a certain spell or event occurs – like the monk glyph http://www.wowhead.com/item=87883 – have versions for cheer, bow, flex, taunt, etc.
Cosmetic Action Effects: http://www.wowhead.com/spell=130169
Similar to cosmetic glyphs, these could change the way something looks. For example that Luckydo from the grummle area that stuns an enemy by turning them into a teddy bear. So, rather than causing a stun (not amping character power, remember), what about a Luckydo that makes the stuns you already have turn your enemy into a teddy bear for the duration? This of course opens up other CC-style transformations like all the critters from hex and polymorph.
Obviously this is just a sort of rough list that I cobbled together during a brainstorming session and not a complete/finished/polished list, but it’s something that I felt could add some fun and flavor to the game without adding a lot more complexity. Most of the models, animations, etc. I suggested are already coded into the game in one way or another: trinkets, holiday items, spells, glyphs, and so on. I’m not suggesting that it wouldn’t take some time and effort to make them work in a new way (obviously it would) but it seems to me that this would be a cool new feature on which the programmers would already have a head start.
So, what does your Luckydo? Feel free to comment with your ideas.
Anyone know where to suggest this sort of thing on the forums? I’d love to see this get into the game.
